Show Notes: 31 July 2011

This week's program was all because a several e-mails that were a response to a previous show (Dangerous Women).  We got both good and bad letters - no hate mail, surprisingly enough.  The one theme that ran through all of the letters was equal time.  Since we focused on the ladies before, it was strongly suggested that we do a show featuring men.

"Easy enough," I thought, "just play every other song in the Swing Shift Radio catalog."  Sadly, it doesn't work that way.  So I needed to consult an expert on all things male - our torch singing chanteuse here at the Meridian Night Club, our own Bebe' LaBousche.  Bebe' styles herself as well versed in masculinity and it's application there-of; so with her guidance we chose music to fit the singularly most misunderstood and poorly represented of all of the creatures on God's green Earth - the Alpha Male.

Bebe' chose the songs that from her perspective fit how she sees men.  Bobby Marlette and I tempered out some of the selections, and as a collaborative effort I proudly present our show rundown:

  • Peter Gunn Theme – The Blues Brothers
  • Datin’ With No Dough – Royal Crown Revue
  • Quick Slick Pick-up Artist – Pegy Cone & Her Central Park Stompers
  • Big Bad Handsome Man – Imelda May
  • Mr. Zoot Suit –Ingrid Lucia & The Flying Neutrinos
  • Mr. Pinstripe Suite – Big Bad Voodoo Daddy
  • Hazel Eyes - Bellevue Cadillac
  • Regular Joe – Indigo Swing
  • I Hope I Die Before I Go Bald – Ray Gelato
  • Tarzan of Harlem -  Cab Calloway
  • Dick Tracy – Ice T (SDTK to Dick Tracy)
  • Stray Cat Strut – Stray Cats

The "It's Martini Time!" segment for this week was a definite Alpha Male concoction - The Classic Sidecar!  Thanks to The Connor Butler Bar in Vancouver BC for providing Rob the bartender and his recipe!

If you have a drink or bartender you want highlighted on the show, just drop me an e-mail here on the show - TommyCage[at]SwingShiftRadio[dot]com.

Our weekly foray into old-time radio as presented by the Radio Noir Playhouse was a cut from Five Minute Mysteries, "Snap Judgement".

See you next week on The Swing Shift!
