Independence Day Show on Monday July 4th!!!

Hello Friends of Swing Shift!

On the 4th of July, a special episode of The Swing Shift Radio Show will broadcast at 3pm on WGUN 1010AM- Atlanta, celebrating Independence Day.

What makes this show unique is that we'll be focusing on American history (of course), and what it meant to be patriotic during the tumultuous War Years.  There will be NO politics - strictly an observance of American Exceptional-ism and Patriotic reverence.  The theme will be sacrifice, something every American should be willing to do to help when their country is in need or when their fellow countrymen are in harms way.

The music will be mostly period pieces, originals from 1937-1944 - stuff with which we are all familiar, such as Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, and The Andrew Sisters.  Its a bit of nostalgia, yes, but it also gives us something to look forward to - how will we answer the call that our grandparents and great grandparents answered?  I don't mean just the soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines - but Rosie the Riveter, the Civil Defense Wardens, the Bond Drive volunteers and the people manning the Stage Door Canteens.

Our generation - those that went to war in the Gulf (both times), and then on to Afghanistan are without a doubt great patriots! They volunteered for service, no draft needed for these heroes.  But what about us at home - what did we do when the call came?  And what are we teaching our children to do when, God forbid, it's their turn?

I'm looking forward to the music, the "we can do it" attitude, and the smiles put on in a time of crisis - because, that boys and girls, is what marks us as unique. American exceptional-ism is how we stand up and persevere.  We can look back and swell with pride and look forward with conviction.
